Balenciaga arrives in Oslo

June 15, 2017
Promenaden welcomes Balenciaga to the big city, the French fashion house has opened the store for customers and you’ll find it next to Gucci and Hermès.

Balenciaga made a daring choice by choosing the Georgian designer behind Vetements as the house's creative director, Demna Gvasalia. Balenciaga has undergone several creative leaders over the years, including Alexander Wang and Nicholas Ghesquiere. It seems that Demna has managed to do what nobody has done before him — pushing the boundaries and using everyday garments that he graciously converts into pret-a-porter.

Balenciaga's store in Oslo sells bags, wallets, shoes, pret-a-porter, accessories and even perfumes.

Demna Gvasalia has made Balenciaga again one of the world's most sought after brands, and during the upcoming 100th anniversary for the brand, Gvasalia chose to recreate classic styles from the past. Balenciaga is a perfect addition to Promenaden, the brand has deep roots in the fashion industry and has never had more success on a global basis than today.

Balenciaga was founded by Cristobal Balenciaga, which was referred to as "The King of Fashion". Balenciaga was founded in 1919, but did not open the doors to its studio at Avenue George V in Paris before 1937. Several designers of today's major brands have Cristobal Balenciaga to thank for their career, including Hubert de Givenchy, Oscar de La Renta, Emanuel Ungaro and Andre Courreges.

Demna Gvasalia has also changed how fashion enthusiasts look at luxury by redefining what the word actually means to the individual. It's no longer tulle, Swarovski and appliqué that define and limit the genre. Now there are hoodies, tights and raincoats presented in a new and abstract format in luxurious qualities — the brand is here to stay and it will definitely be under Demna Gvasalia's leadership.

Balenciaga can be found between Gucci and Hermes in Nedre Slottsgate.
