Welcome to HUG LIFE!

June 13, 2018
From 14th of June until 15th of September 2018, Oslo’s Promenaden Fashion District will come alive with bold colorful giant art installations entitled “Hug Life” by emerging Norwegian artists BROSLO.

Already well established in the international music and arts scene, with patrons including Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky and The Chainsmokers – BROSLO will showcase around 150 art pieces throughout the summer along with a pop-up gallery at Øvre Slottsgate for the opening weekend whereby the public can meet the duo artists and watch work in progress. The “Hug Life” art exhibition will consist of giant inflatable teddy bears with tattoos hung above buildings on Øvre and Nedre Slottsgate and smaller bespoke creations at EGER on Karl Johans Gate and Steen & Strom Department Store. Visitors will also get a chance to purchase limited edition fashion accessories which will be announced shortly.

BROSLO’s “Hug Life” concept was inspired by the late Tupac Shakur - although well-known for being a talented and controversial rap artist and actor, few people were aware of his evolution from poetry which often portrayed his vulnerabilities and internal conflict. His life was a tapestry of contradictory images: the concerned young father cradling his son in the video for ”keep ya head up” to the angry rapper.  The duo wanted to represent these two sides, and as with all of BROSLO’s art, the goal of this installation is to create positive energy and inspire people. The teddy bear was created to symbolize a joyful innocence which everyone can relate too, whilst the Hug Life letters and the tattoos reference 2Pac’s`s Thug Life torso tattoo and youth culture.

Nix and Jonny, BROSLO, stated “HUG LIFE" project is about spreading joy and warmth, and acceptance. Through this art installation, we want to give the world and the citizens of Oslo a hug and a smile.”

Promenaden – Oslo’s fashion district has seen a significant change in the last year with over seventeen new retail stores opening. The district provides a tangible brand for the world’s luxury and premium retailers to look towards when thinking of Scandinavian and Nordic expansion. New stores opening soon include Jimmy Choo, Moncler. Zara is set to open its largest store in Northern Europe.

We are thrilled to be working with BROSLO. Art and fashion are the two fields of ongoing innovation and creative expression and it`s important that we continue to support emerging talent and create an environment that not only surprises, but inspires our visitors, and that also demonstrates Oslo’s credentials as a leading fashion and tourist capital.”

BROSLO, short for The Brothers of Oslo, was formed by artists Jonny and Nix. Without any formal art education, they managed to make an impact on the Norwegian art scene, as well as in Norwegian youth culture. They are known for creating large-scale paintings, sculptures and light installations and more. They recently worked with Mardou & Dean on a collaborated Spring Summer 2017 capsule collection during Oslo Runway.
